"We have used the (Cat 777 fitted with an SDB) truck in a team with two other conventional steel bodied ones on an open cast coal site. The type of material we were dealing with varied from pure blasted and highly siliceous sandstone to extremely sticky boulder clay and peat. This material was so tenacious that we could only work clamshell shovels in it.

To be frank, there was no comparison between the Duratray body and the steel ones. The steel ones retained 15-30% untippable material wedged in the bottom. The exhaust heated bodies succeeded in baking the material to a high degree and making it even more difficult to remove. Because of the high degree of flexing of the mat on the Duratray body, very little material was retained after tipping and it was never necessary to dig the skip out."

"For this sort of application I honestly believe that the Duratray body is unbeatable in performance. There are, of course, other advantages to their bodies like weight saving and extra payload and it is much kinder to the frame because it absorbs the shocks much better."
